Production Seminar A (Design)

Through the implementation of design methods (field research, problem setting, prototyping, testing), this seminar aims to use design to encourage behavioural change and promote understanding. In this seminar, we will expand the scope of our focus to include “one’s sphere of life and points of contact with society (such as one’s home, the streets, public spaces, and on campus),” using the environments we come into contact with on a daily basis at large as our subject matter. We will observe phenomena unfolding in the moment, individuals’ subtle discomforts, and the relationship between people and objects, and attempt to intervene by combining both technical and psychological approaches. What is key is less the degree of perfection, but more the process. This approach assumes that hypotheses may be disproven, plans may change, and failures may occur through experimentation and testing. By documenting and articulating these experiences, we cultivate the ability to grasp design as an iterative process that moves back and forth between thinking and praxis.?
